Is Anything Stress Free?
We think so. At least, we try to make the process we have with our Portrait Sessions as stress free as possible. We have found over the years that having a process in place is the best way to be sure everything can run smoothly.
Of course, nothing is perfect and there are bumps along the way, but if we did not have a process that helps you know what you need to do when and how, then everything would fall on you and things can get chaotic. Think of a large bridge that spans a huge body of water. What if that bridge you were traveling on was open and did not have any guard rails on the sides? It was just a road suspended above the water.
When the guard rails are in place, there is a path, a way and some boundaries to help you stay on track. That is how our process works! Our process is the guard rails that guide you to the best session you can have!
So, when it comes to your session, we are here to help you relax, enjoy your time together and be prepared all at the same time.
Not only will we help you from start to finish, but in this blog post we offer tips to help you be even better prepared!
7 TIPS TO TAKE THE STRESS OFF
CLOTHING
1. We will help you choose your clothing if you need it. Finding the outfits at least two weeks ahead of time is key and trying them on right away to ensure you are comfortable, coordinate together, and like what you see is a great idea. Be sure you do not see any holes or stains, too!
2. Once you have checked your attire, set it aside in a safe place and be sure to tell your kiddos that the clothes are only for your portrait session and not to be worn until then! This will help to be sure everything stays put and does not go missing. The same tips go for all your accessories, jewelry, hats, belts, etc...
DISCUSSION
3. About three days before the session, start talking to your kiddos and spouse about the session and how things will go. Let them know where the session will be, who will be photographing them, and how much fun it is going to be! Discussing this at another time before the session and on the way to the session will help them be prepared, not feel unsure, and more confident!
SNACKS AND OTHER ITEMS
4. Depending on the age of your children, bringing snacks and other items related to their needs is a great idea. For example, toddlers might need a pick me up with water and food. Babies might need a diaper change and a bottle. So, packing this the day before your session is a great idea so you will have everything you need. Don't forget wipes, and/or hairbrushes and makeup!
EATING
5. We usually schedule sessions after breakfast or early evening. We understand that kids and adults need to eat! So, the best time to have sessions is when everyone has been fed and feels comfortable. And, it is best to get dressed after eating to avoid any unnecessary spills on portrait session clothing-especially if you are wearing white!
WHAT TO AVOID
6. If you have young children, avoid giving them colored drinks before the session. You have seen that dreaded mark above their lips that is so difficult to get off? The red mustache from drinking a red colored drink?? Avoiding colored drinks will prevent that.
AT THE SESSION
7. Once you are at the session with us, we hope you can relax and enjoy each other's company. Let your kids be kids and feel comfortable. Let them run, jump, and just have fun. We have found that letting young children do these things helps them feel comfortable and more at ease. Plus, we usually get some awesome action shots for you! Once they have done that, we usually move into more lifestyle and guided poses for you so you can have the best stress free session we can give you!
WRAPPING IT UP
Our goal is to help you have the best portrait session that will produce amazing, unique imagery of your family. Mostly, though, it is more about you spending time with your loved ones, enriching your connection with each other, enjoying each other's company, and seeing the beauty of your lives unfold.
If we have accomplished that, then we are extremely happy.
