Studio Photography Sessions
What do you think of when you hear about studio portrait sessions? What words come to mind? Outdated? Stuffy? Boring?
We hope not! Studio portrait sessions have come a long way from the film days but still offer the classic, timeless look that never goes out of style.
Studio Portrait Sessions offer a different look to your imagery. We LOVE to see families get dressed up and showcase their serious and fun side all at the same time! When we had our studio in Illinois, we had so much fun creating beautiful imagery for our clients.
So, what are the benefits?
TIMELESS, CLASSIC & FUN PORTRAITURE
Most studios offer timeless, classic backdrops that will never go out of style. Just like many industries, trendy ideas exist but will quickly go out of style. Do you remember the silhouettes that used to be so popular in studio portraiture? If not, that was a trend that has come and gone. What about tons of props to create gigantic themed sets but you hardly see the subjects? That trend is somewhat still around, but has toned down some. At least now you can see the people and the focus is not solely on the props.
Most studios offer very classic backdrops that highlight the subject, keep the look simple, yet timeless, and provide a beautiful upscale look for your family. I know of one very talented photographer who uses white and gray backdrops only. But, if you see her imagery, you will know it is hers because her style is fun and whimsical. Most of her clients dress up, look amazing and have so much fun during their sessions. They are not just robots standing there looking stoic. Our style is a bit of both.
NOT WEATHER DEPENDENT
Here in Montana, we can expect snow and inclement weather up until June! Cold temps can last from October through April, fires can cause lingering smoke issues, and often mud season overwhelms us. With a studio session, none of that matters! No rescheduling is needed due to the weather because you would be indoors.
PROFESSIONAL LIGHTING
At Songs of Life, we believe that photography is painting with light. When we had our studio in Illinois, we would often use three or four lights to create unique, three dimensional looks for our clients.
When you are outside, that is a bit more challenging. Lugging four lights, all your camera equipment and everything else takes a lot of time and effort. Plus, most families want to walk to different spots within the part, so all that equipment is just not travel friendly.
There are ways to create better imagery outside using off camera flash, bringing a lighter strobe, or using flash on your camera with a diffuser. We do all those things because we believe that having flat lighting only is just not as pleasing in all your imagery. We use the sun a lot as a back light and to help us create shadows and contrast.
Studio settings provide a much more controlled environment which, in my opinion, gives you the best options for the best lighting.
PRIVACY & CROWDS
Having a studio session often offers more privacy than being outside. Often, at parks and other forested locations, other people are out, enjoying their day. They might become a distraction to little ones, or they might even stop and watch! (we have had that happen before)
If there are many photographers out and about in the same area, we might have to wait for the spot we want to become available. In Illinois, one location was extremely popular. A huge stone gate was the prime spot for photos, and I remember having to wait up to 15 minutes in line with my clients to get a turn. If you have little ones, waiting can be a challenging thing.
Still, we managed, and imagery was beautiful!
Studio settings offer a more private, quiet escape where you and your loved ones can relax and be yourselves.
As a full service photography studio, my goal is to create an unforgettable experience that you and your family will love forever. From the moment we meet, I want you and your family to feel totally at ease and ready to document your most precious moments together.
