Fall is one of the busiest times for family photography. It is also one of the busiest for families, in general. Especially if you have school age children! At Songs of Life Photography Studio, we understand how busy your life can be. We have lived it!
We understand that trying to figure out all the details on your own can be a daunting task, so that is why we do it for you. We meet with you to make decisions and guide you through the process. You are not alone! We will stand in your closets and go through your clothing so you do not have to do it by yourself. We will work together to find the best location for you, and we will take care of all the details so all you have to do is show up to your session and make a few decisions.
So, in keeping with our "guided assistance every step of the way" process, here are a few tips to help make your session a breeze!
1. Be sure you leave plenty of time to arrive at the location.
Often, there is a big rush to get out the door. How do you feel when that happens? Relaxed? At peace? Not usually. Usually the feelings that arise are exasperation, frustration, and often anxiety. Having clothing laid out ahead of time, and all the necessary items you are bringing packed and by the door can save a lot of time before you have to leave. Do that the night before. Giving yourself an extra 15 minutes of driving time so you can arrive early will provide you with peace of mind, too. And, with us, there is no rush. We want you to feel at peace and relaxed, because if you show up to your session all frazzled, that energy will rub off on your children and the session might not go as you had hoped.
2. Dads-please be a willing participant.
Much of the time, the mom is the one who is coordinating all the elements of the session. Finding the photographer, doing the research, coordinating the kids, etc. And, the dads are a little hands off. So, just having you on board in a more active role will make the process so much easier.
3. Let your kids be kids.
We mean that. They do not always have to say "cheese", or look at the camera, or behave like perfect angels. Because they probably won't. They will get tired. They will get hungry, and they might cry. And, that is ok with us. And, it should be ok with any photographer! Setting the stage for a peaceful session and giving your children breaks is key to helping them have fun and feel like they are an integral part of the time we have together.
4. Get a good nights sleep.
Being rested helps at any time, but especially if you have little ones who need to nap. We try to plan sessions around little ones naps as much as we can, because we know that they will be happier and enjoy themselves more if they have slept. In general, it just makes for a better session because moods are just better.
5. Bring snacks.
Taking a break is always a good idea during the session so everyone can relax more and just let go. We usually bring water, but if you bring your loved one's favorite snacks, that is a welcome treat that they are familiar with. It will give them some energy and the boost that they need to continue!
Are you ready to schedule a relaxing, enjoyable session? Keep these tips in mind and we know your session will be fun!
