Do any of you remember having senior portraits taken? I don't! Mine were back in 1977 and were no big deal. I wore a "blazer" (that is what it was called back then) and a nice blouse and voila-a senior portrait. For the yearbook. There were no "model experiences" or high school senior representatives for portrait studios! My how the times have changed!
Today, it's an entirely different deal, and the idea of it all can be very overwhelming for both parents and even the seniors, so here is some info that might help!
Senior portraits are about celebrating a life-your senior's life. Having been in education for 13 years at least, many milestones and accomplishments have occurred. Especially the last four years in high school. And, those are definitely worth documenting! The last year in high school is all about being right on the edge of "adulthood" and going into the next huge season of their life-whether that is a trade school, job, college, or the armed forces. Or-something else.
For parents, it is bittersweet. At least for me, it was! Seeing my children graduate from high school was wonderful as I was so happy for them, but also, sad, because right then and there I knew they were going to be on their own someday. The transitions can be challenging and emotional in many ways.
Having portraits of your senior at this stage of life is priceless and valuable. Just like with any portraits taken at any stage or year, having the ability to view an album of your images with a friend will call to mind many memories that you had in school. For the parents, it is remembering your children at that age and thinking back to when they were first born, or one of the many milestones that occurred in their life. It is truly wonderful.
Why should you have senior portraits taken?
For all the reasons listed above. Whether you want to go all out and have a "model experience" with hair and makeup and make it more of a fashion show, or showcase all your athletic accomplishments with edgy, artistic editing. Or perhaps, you want to document the last year in high school with your music, theater, or dance memorabilia. Or just with you and your friends. Whatever you choose, be sure you find a photographer that suits you and your family.
With our senior sessions, we focus on YOU. What YOU want and what is best for your family. And, all our senior sessions include a mini family session so mom and dad can have images of their family together before the senior heads off into the next season of his or her life.
