What does it mean to "reset"?
I like to watch tv shows on amazon. I also like to watch movies on netflix; both streaming services. How many times have you tapped the netflix or amazon button to start streaming and all you see is their logo and the wonderful wheel that tells you it is "thinking" about getting going. How long do you wait for it to start?
We wait. and we wait. and we wait. and we wait. We wait because we expect to see results. We wait because we expect the program to start. We wait because we often do not know what else to do.
I wait. But, then I take action. I usually reset the tv. Usually, it is as simple as turning everything off and then unplugging the tv from the electrical outlet for 30 seconds. Sometimes, I have to unplug the comcast modem as well. But, I get results. Everything usually works fine after that.
And, the funny thing is-I have no idea how that works.
It also happens with my computer. I often turn it off and turn it back on again so it will work right.
How do we do that with our lives?
So often, our lives get so busy we are just surviving. We are not really living. We may be going through a traumatic or long term stressful life event. Is there an end in sight? How can we navigate through the seasons we are in when all we feel like is a robot or like we are just beating our heads against the wall without seeing any positive returns?
It starts with change.
You know that saying, " Sanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the same results." Change will not occur unless we are willing to make differences in our lives that will lead to different goals, different plans, and then eventually, different outcomes.
Sometimes it means we need to STOP. Stop one small thing we do every day which once mastered, will give us more confidence and courage to change more.
Sometimes it means we need to EMBRACE our imperfections and ACCEPT who we are. Once we are in a place of acceptance and not trying to be someone else's version of ourselves, or being someone we are not, we can feel free and move in a direction that is truth.
These principles help us personally and in business.
I am doing that personally, and in turn, this is carrying over into my business. I am turning FROM events, investments of time and money, and practices that were good, but yielding little results in growing the business. And, then, I am turning TO other events, investments of time and money, that hopefully, will lead to more growth and more people to reach.
It is important to turn FROM but also to turn TO something else. Or, we just end up like the swirling circle on the tv, still thinking about getting started.
We are resetting.
We are becoming more of a business that is a reflection of who I am. Being authentic has been on my heart for so long, and I am finally making changes to see myself and my business be who they were created to be. :)
Dr. Seuss said it well, "
“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
So, be yourself. Accept yourself. Embrace yourself. Change one small thing that will help you live a life more in keeping with who you are. Your family, your children, and you will be better off for it.
