What equipment do you use? Why do you use that lens? How many cameras do you have?
These are some of the questions I have been asked over the years so I thought I would satisfy curious minds. Remember, I have been in the photography business for many years and started in the film industry, so some of my lenses are actually from the 1970's and were used on film cameras!
Nowadays, you can purchase a kit camera with one or two lenses for under $1000-nikon or canon. These kit cameras are a great starting point, but have many limitations.
There is so much that goes into camera buying and lens choice, that those topics are not going to be discussed here, but I will give you the cost and the reason I purchased what I did.
CAMERAS
- MINOLTA XG7-my very first camera received when I was 17 as a graduation gift from my dad. Before this, I was using his equipment! I used this camera for many years-even photographed the bands Chicago, and Doobie Brothers with it!

When you buy a used camera, you have to take on the risk of something going wrong. Which happened to me with the d800 and the d3. Both started giving me error messages and would quit working after awhile of use. So, they became undependable. Thus, the upgrades! I would have loved to purchased new cameras, but with a price tag of $5000, I was just not in that place. I am not the type that runs out and always buys the newest and the greatest, either. The cameras I have may be older models, but they work great!
As far as cost on the lenses and other items- ballpark figure of everything that I have is $11, 325.
There you go-a glimpse into what is in my bag.
It is important to me to have backups of everything I have so that my business can run smoothly without any issues that directly affect my clients. I think I have it covered.
What's in your camera bag?
