Fun Activities for Your Family
I am still in awe that 2022 is coming so quickly to a close. Where did the time go? I know we all have the same 24 hours in a day, but somehow I see time speeding up toward the end of the year.
For many families, the time between Halloween and the end of the year is one of the busiest. Seeing family, gift giving, traveling, and planning holiday activities is all a part of that time. Often, so much time is spent outside of your own home, that your family time goes by the wayside.
I remember vividly the busyness that ensued during the holidays when my kiddos were young. Visiting mom, visiting dad, visiting extending family three times over, and visiting other family gatherings all had to be fit into two or three days! That left very little room for my own family-four little kiddos under the age of 7.
At one point, I looked at them and said " What about OUR family time?" We need to start creating our own family traditions so those traditions can be passed down to your families when you are older!
Thus, boundaries were drawn. Unfortunately, the decision to forgo some of the external family activities did not go over as well as I had hoped. Still, my kiddos were more important to me than spending time at an event that did not provide the connection with them, so those went by the wayside.
Are you setting time for YOUR family during this very busy time? Time at home our doing other activities with just YOU? (and not just opening gifts in the morning and rushing off to spend time with an aunt and uncle an hour away).
Please hear me-spending time with loved ones is so important. But not at the expense of your own family.
How You Can Change That
You can change running all over the place by planning a day to just spend time with your OWN family. Whether that is just the two of you, or mom, dad and the kiddos. YOUR family. YOUR way. And, here are some activities to help you start this tradition!
Fun Snow Activites
Living in one of the valleys in Montana provides ample opportunities to get out in the snow. The most obvious are skiing, snowboarding, and hiking. But, there are many other options (including those that do not cost anything) below!
1. Build a snow beast. A snowman is a good start, but perhaps it is time to branch out and create something totally unique and different. All family members can pitch in and make their mark so you can create something that has never been created before!
2. Find the best sledding slope around. Bozeman provides plenty of opportunities for sledding. Perhaps you could put this activity on your list of things to do EVERY weekend, but find a different sledding hill each time.
3. Build an igloo. Sledding didn’t tire you out? Packing and assembling the hundreds of snow bricks it takes to build an igloo definitely will, but I would imagine the result will be a cozy, warm place to light a small fire, snuggle together and make s'mores!
4. Walk in the moonlight. If you see a full moon, venture out into the moon lit snow and see the magic that is created!
5. Take a scenic drive. Where are the best Christmas lights in the area? Find them, drive there and take it all in.
6. Snowball fight! YESSSSSSS!
7. Lastly-Family Photo Session. We hope you include us in your holiday plans as we would love to capture all the great memories of your time together!
Check back next week when we will have MORE fun activities for you and your family to engage in over the holidays!
